Moustache Unplugged #4

Hehehe...undetected, I've grabbed the opportunity to work on my letter...

Dear Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT),

For decades, I-70 traffic into and out of Colorado's mountains has been an absolute joke.  Weekends during ski season make a mockery of the interstate having motorists idle 4+ hours to travel a mere 60 miles.  But, holidays and summertime weekends also constipate the interstate like pain pills in a surgery patient.
Your clever solution to the absurdly unacceptable problem?

"Pacing."  Oh ya, that really makes a difference.  Let's take State Troopers in their marked patrol cars, with emergency lights flickering, and lead a group of motorists up and down from the Eisenhower Tunnel.  But, unlike Indy's pace car that leads the racers in one grand start, this pacing requires multiple waves since only a certain allotment of motorists can follow the pace car.  I still don't get what this accomplishes despite your claim of it being successful.

How about "metering."  Really?  Installing traffic signals across all lanes that will flash a green arrow for go and a solid red for stop will fix the traffic congestion how?  I forecast this latest magical elixir will really back things up not only behind the traffic signal, but also in front as motorists race from the light to build stop 'n go traffic up ahead.  This is as much of a fairy tale to fix the problem as asking travelers to reschedule times when they drive.  Do you not think there's already plenty who adjust travel their times to avoid the toxic levels of road rage that I-70 creates?

So, let's review.  No matter how you sugarcoat a dog turd, it's still a turd.

Get it together.  A solution is WAY overdue!  Work with legislature to address the real fix that must include more lanes and/or mass transit that can handle large volumes of travelers because it's only going to get worse.  Let's not be having this same conversation in another 10 years...step up and get busy now.  No more talking the talk, get busy walking the walk.

Whew, I feel better.

Thanks for listening,
The Moustache
