hehehe....undetected, I seize the moment to work on another letter....
Dear Politically-Correct Wordslingers,
I solemnly watched the news on this Memorial Day, eternally grateful how others have secured my freedoms while living in the United States. The news dribbled on...and on...and on. Never once was it said how this day was to honor those KILLED while serving this country. Instead, that word of violence and terror was strategically avoided and repeatedly replaced and sugar coated with "the ultimate sacrifice."
Yes, indeed, dying for a cause is the ultimate sacrifice. It sounds gallant. It sounds praiseworthy. It sounds heroic.
But, overuse of the phrase lessens the meaning. Kind of like the word "awesome." Overuse of the word has reduced its impact because these days; soda is awesome, chewing gum is awesome, sliced bread is awesome...
Memorial Day is a day to remember the men and women who DIED while serving. These deaths included barbaric tortures, mutilations and God knows what other atrocities. Yes, they gave the ultimate sacrifice, but let us not soften their tragic deaths with overused flowery words. They were fellow country men and women who bravely stepped up to protect and serve this country and were KILLED.
No doubt many citizens take for granted the freedoms provided by the United States. It's kind of like breathing, it's taken for granted until suddenly something happens to interrupt the process, then the importance is highlighted in a magnificent way!
National Cemeteries are brilliantly being decorated today with American flags. Please take a moment to realize, to truly understand, what this holiday really means.
It does celebrate everyone paying the ultimate sacrifice. But, for just a moment, try to imagine what that truly means to the hundreds of thousands of people who's headstones are being decorated today. It ain't pretty! And, they met their deaths for our freedoms! Eternal thanks to each and everyone!
I feel a little better now venting off some steam, thanks for listening,
The Moustache
